Fate of the hotel industry in the current economic climate in UAE.

I think your article is spot on when it comes to the hotel industry in Dubai against what hotels offer across the world. I have stayed in many hotels in the region of Africa, M.East, South Asia and Europe and I find that the hotel rates somehow match up to what the hotel has to offer.

This somehow does not hold true in the rat race of Dubai. While demand and supply does play a key role, even budget hotels are in the race to cash in while the demand lasts. They do not measure what they offer against the prices they charge. Hotels rarely look at upgrading their facilities and continue to charge much more every year. This is in stark contrast to some budget and luxury hotels across the region I stated, where irrespective of the demand and market prices, hotels keep a sensible pricing, somewhat matching their product with the customer expectation.

No surprise then that customers are disappointed when they end up in a low budget, worn down hotel with no add-on’s or luxury but paying higher prices than they would pay in some expensive destinations. They do come out feeling fleeced added to it a horrible service experience. Since, demand has also fuelled negligence in service approach across most of the hospitality industry here.

Like you stated, it’s only a matter of time when service would eventually play its part and the bad one’s shall clear out of their earnings. I hope.
